Simple Repair Tasks that You Can Do at Home

Using simple repair tools like a cutting plier, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and adjustable spanners, you can complete various fixes at home without any problems. Here are some of these repair jobs for your perusal.

  • Leaky faucets- The first thing to do is turn off the supply of water. Then you have to remove the faucet handle with your screwdriver. Change the worn-out washer or O-ring before putting the faucet back together again.
  • Clogged drains- A plunger may be used by you for suction and combating clogging. A mix of hot water, baking soda, and vinegar may be used for cleaning purposes. You may also use a drain snake to pull out any hair and other debris.
  • Patching up the holes- You can fix accidental holes in drywalls. Just use your putty knife with a spackle before smoothening it out. For bigger holes, you may use a drywall patch with a joint compound. Sand the area down thereafter, and repaint it.
  • Running toilets- Remove the tank lid at first and inspect the flapper valve. If it is damaged, change it and then tweak the float to ensure the proper water level. You may also tighten or replace the fill valve, whenever it is required.
  • Squeaky doors- You can use WD-40 and petroleum jelly for the door hinges. Tighten any loose screws for the hinge plates. Remove the pin hinges if needed, before applying lubricant and reinserting them.
  • Broken tiles- Grout saws may be used to remove grout around the tile, while you can also use a chisel and hammer to break the damaged one. Thereafter, put the new tile in place by applying adhesive. Once it is dry, put new grout to seal it.
  • Loose handles of cabinets- Use a screwdriver for tightening the screws and in case the hole is tripped, put in a toothpick with glue and reinsert the screw in question. Replace the screw in case it has worn out.
  • Window and door gaps- You can apply caulk to small gaps and cracks. Put in a door sweep to block the entry of air from below the door.
  • Stuck sliding doors- Use a brush and vacuum to clean the track and then apply a silicone-based lubricant. Adjust the rollers with a screwdriver to complete the process.
  • Wobbly tables or chairs- Use a screwdriver to tighten any loose bolts or screws. If the joints are loose, apply wood glue and clamp the same until they dry. You can also use furniture pads for making any uneven legs stable.
